Public Health Resources - Diet and Nutrition

Eating sensibly is an important step towards good health - the more balanced and nutritious the diet, the healthier the person can expect to be. A balanced diet means eating a variety of foods from the 4 main food groups:

  1. Fruit and vegetables.
  2. Meat, fish and alternatives.
  3. Bread, other cereals and potatoes.
  4. Milk and dairy foods.

A significant number of people eat less than they should from these groups of foods and eat too much saturated fat, salt and sugar. This section looks at diet and nutrition and how best to achieve optimum health.

The following 10 pages on 'brief advice' cover:

  • The most important aspects of a healthy diet.
  • The main food groups.
  • How to raise the issue of diet and nutrition.
  • Top Tips for a healthy diet.
